Wedding Insurance provides financial protection if things don’t go to plan on your big day. This can include things like your illness or that of a member of your close family, which could force you to cancel your wedding at short notice. We can reimburse you for irrecoverable payments you have made if wedding suppliers go out of business. If the weather prevents you or more than 50% of your guests getting to the venue, then you could also be covered. If there is loss or damage to things like wedding rings, wedding attire, gifts or photographs then we can also help.

The level of cover required will depend on how much you are planning to spend on your wedding in total. Once you start to plan your wedding or civil partnership you should start with a budget in mind to cover all the key aspects such as venues, catering, photography, flowers, attire, cakes, entertainment, transport etc. Once you have an approximate budget in mind you will then be able to select a level of cover that meets your planned budget. For instance, if you are planning to spend around £20,000 in total on your wedding then you will need to get cover that will compensate you up to that level in the event of cancellation.

Wedinsure offers nine different levels of cover with Tier 1 starting from just £29 for up to £7,500 of protection. So the price you pay will depend upon what level of cover you select. You can find out more about our various cover levels and prices here. Wedding Insurance is single one-off payment, making it a very simple and cost-effective way to protect your wedding.

We suggest that you take it out as soon as you've paid for any part of the event and you have a venue and date arranged, so that your deposits are covered. Wedinsure Wedding Insurance can be taken out up to two years before the wedding date.
Our wedding insurance must be purchased in the names of the prospective marriage or civil partners as they will be the policyholders. However, anyone can purchase a policy on behalf of the prospective marriage or civil partners. If you are purchasing a policy on behalf of the prospective marriage or civil partners then please note any future claim against the policy can only be submitted by the policyholders. In order to meet the eligibility criteria the policyholders must be over 16 years old and one of them must be a UK resident.
Yes, so long as no incident has already occurred that has caused you to lose this money, you will be covered for payments made prior to purchasing the insurance. Please ensure you keep receipts for all transactions and where possible you should also get a contract or agreement for the services and products you purchase.
In the unfortunate event that you need to make a claim on your Wedinsure policy, we try to keep things quick and simple. To make a claim please call our Claims Department on 0333 003 3182. Please have your policy schedule to hand so you can tell us the details we need to process your claim as quickly as possible. Our opening hours are 9:00am to 5:30pm Monday to Friday. If having examined your policy you decide not to proceed with the insurance, the policyholder will have 14 days to cancel the policy starting on the day you receive the policy documentation. To cancel, please contact us by email at customer@wedinsure.co.uk stating the reason for cancellation. On receipt of your cancellation instruction, we will refund any premiums already paid, except when you have already made a claim under your policy or your wedding has already taken place.
Yes, of course. If you would like to make any changes to your policy such as changing the dates of the wedding ceremony or reception, or increasing or decreasing the level of cover, then please contact us via email at customer@wedinsure.co.uk and one of our customer service agents will be happy to help.
Yes, we can. You will need to make sure you let us know the country where the wedding ceremony and/or wedding reception is taking place when selecting your level of cover. Certain sections of the policy do not apply outside the UK, your policy document will specify this. We draw your attention to the fact that Personal liability cover does not apply to weddings or receptions in the USA or Canada, and guest personal liability does not apply outside the UK.
Yes, you are covered for one ceremony and one reception, providing the date of your reception is within 31 days of the date of your ceremony.
There is no cover if you or anyone else upon whose health the wedding depends:
  • Acts against medical advice.
  • Suffers any medical condition for which they are awaiting results of tests or medical investigations.
  • Suffers any medical condition for which they are on a hospital waiting list for treatment.
  • Have a medical condition for which they have received a terminal prognosis.
  • Suffer anxiety, stress or depression (unless admitted as a hospital in-patient).
  • Commit or attempt to commit of injure themselves intentionally.

If you or a close relative upon whom the wedding depends has a pre-existing medical condition that does not fall into any one of the above conditions, then the policy covers it.

If they are a close relative (as defined in the policy) and are not excluded by General Exclusion 1 (which sets out various health-related exclusions) you are covered under the cancellation, curtailment and rearrangement section of the policy if, in the circumstances, it is reasonable, necessary and unavoidable that you cancel, curtail or rearrange your wedding or reception.
Yes, if you suffer a serious complication and the expected date of delivery is more than two months after the wedding date then you will be covered for pregnancy. Please note we do not cover disinclination to marry because you are pregnant.
Yes, of course. Wedinsure covers both weddings and civil partnership ceremonies and receptions.
No. This will constitute a circumstance of which you are already aware or in the public domain and that will inevitably lead to a loss and is, therefore, not insured under the terms of the policy. This would lead to any such claim being declined and more seriously, depending on the circumstances, could be considered potential insurance fraud.
We understand that this could be a major concern for couples planning their wedding day. Most other insurers only provide cover for cancellation if the venue goes into liquidation and ceases trading. We want to provide our customers with more certainty and peace of mind on their big day. As such, we have extended our cancellation coverage to cover circumstances where the venue has gone into administration and cannot guarantee your booking.
This policy provides cover for only one ceremony and one reception, so you must choose which ceremony and reception you want to insure when you purchase the policy.
You are covered for costs directly contracted by you to them for their services only.
A wedding insurance policy should provide you with good protection but there are same basic steps you can take:
  • Ensure you have a clear and written contract with all your suppliers.
  • Keep receipts and copies of any communication with your suppliers.
  • Consider paying by credit card whenever possible as this can also give you additional protection under the Consumer Credit Act.
