Under our wedding insurance policy we cover the cancellation and rearrangement of the wedding due to the following reasons that may relate to the Coronavirus:
- the booked venue for the wedding or wedding reception being unable to hold your wedding and/or wedding reception due to an outbreak of infectious disease (e.g. Coronavirus) or its closure by a relevant authority.
- We also cover the unavoidable cancellation of the wedding due to the death or illness of the wedding participants or their close relative, which would make having or continuing with the wedding and/or wedding reception impossible. For example, if one of the wedding participants or a close relative contracted the Coronavirus shortly before the wedding and were unable to attend due to ill health, death then that would also be covered.
The policy does not cover cancellation or rearrangement due to any claim resulting from issues relating to travel bans, flight cancellations or government acts, regulations such as a ban on public or social gatherings or any form of travel restrictions. This is general guidance only and must be understood in the context of the term and conditions of the policy. For example, if you were to buy the policy having already contracted Coronavirus then that would not be covered. Or if you buy the policy knowing that there is a existing circumstance that makes a claim inevitable then that would also not be covered. Wedding Insurance provides financial protection if things don’t go to plan on your big day. This can include things like your illness or that of a member of your close family, which could force you to cancel your wedding at short notice. We can reimburse you for irrecoverable payments you have made if wedding suppliers go out of business. If the weather prevents you or more than 50% of your guests getting to the venue, then you could also be covered. If there is loss or damage to things like wedding rings, wedding attire, gifts or photographs then we can also help.
The level of cover required will depend on how much you are planning to spend on your wedding in total. Once you start to plan your wedding or civil partnership you should start with a budget in mind to cover all the key aspects such as venues, catering, photography, flowers, attire, cakes, entertainment, transport etc. Once you have an approximate budget in mind you will then be able to select a level of cover that meets your planned budget. For instance, if you are planning to spend around £20,000 in total on your wedding then you will need to get cover that will compensate you up to that level in the event of cancellation.

We suggest that you take it out as soon as you've paid for any part of the event and you have a venue and date arranged, so that your deposits are covered. Wedinsure Wedding Insurance can be taken out up to two years before the wedding date.
Our wedding insurance must be purchased in the names of the prospective marriage or civil partners as they will be the policyholders. However, anyone can purchase a policy on behalf of the prospective marriage or civil partners. If you are purchasing a policy on behalf of the prospective marriage or civil partners then please note any future claim against the policy can only be submitted by the policyholders.
Yes, so long as no incident has already occurred that has caused you to lose this money, you will be covered for payments made prior to purchasing the insurance. Please ensure you keep receipts for all transactions and where possible you should also get a contract or agreement for the services and products you purchase.
If something has happened that you think means you need to claim under the policy for cancellation or rearrangement, we strongly recommend that you contact us on 0333 003 3182 as soon as possible, and before you make any decisions or arrangements with your wedding services suppliers. This is because cancelling the wedding and/or the wedding reception exposes you to liability for costs and we want to help as much as we can to mitigate those costs and to help you understand what is and is not covered under the terms of this policy.
Yes, we can. You will need to make sure you let us know the country where the wedding ceremony and/or wedding reception is taking place when selecting your level of cover. Certain sections of the policy do not apply outside the UK, your policy document will specify this. We draw your attention to the fact that Personal liability cover does not apply to weddings or receptions in the USA or Canada, and guest personal liability does not apply outside the UK.
Yes, you are covered for one ceremony and one reception, providing the date of your reception is within 31 days of the date of your ceremony.
There is no cover for any claim caused directly or indirectly or contributed to by you or a close relative:
- Acting against medical advice at any time during the period of insurance,
- Suffering any medical condition on or before the commencement date for which they have received treatment or advice in the 12 months prior to that date or for which they are awaiting results of tests or medical investigations,
- Suffering a condition on or in the 12 months prior to the commencement date for which they are on a hospital waiting list for treatment,
- Having a medical condition on the commencement date for which they have received a terminal prognosis,
- Suffering at any time anxiety, stress or depression (unless admitted as an in-patient at a hospital),
- Committing or attempting to commit suicide or injuring themselves intentionally;
If you or a close relative upon whom the wedding depends has a pre-existing medical condition that does not fall into any one of the above conditions, then the policy covers it.
If they are a close relative (as defined in the policy) and are not excluded by General Exclusion 1 (which sets out various health-related exclusions) you are covered under the cancellation, curtailment and rearrangement section of the policy if, in the circumstances, it is reasonable, necessary and unavoidable that you cancel, curtail or rearrange your wedding or reception. However, please note the policy will not consider a claim for cancellation or rearrangement if the death of a close relative occurs more than 6 months from the date of the wedding.
Yes, if you suffer a serious complication and the expected date of delivery is more than two months after the wedding date then you will be covered for pregnancy. Please note we do not cover disinclination to marry because you are pregnant.
Yes, of course. Wedinsure covers both weddings and civil partnership ceremonies and receptions.
No. This will constitute a circumstance of which you are already aware or in the public domain and that will inevitably lead to a loss and is, therefore, not insured under the terms of the policy. This would lead to any such claim being declined and more seriously, depending on the circumstances, could be considered potential insurance fraud.
We understand that this could be a major concern for couples planning their wedding day. Most other insurers only provide cover for cancellation if the venue goes into liquidation and ceases trading. We want to provide our customers with more certainty and peace of mind on their big day. As such, we have extended our cancellation coverage to cover circumstances where the venue has gone into administration and cannot guarantee your booking.
This policy provides cover for only one ceremony and one reception, so you must choose which ceremony and reception you want to insure when you purchase the policy.
You are covered for costs directly contracted by you to them for their services only.
- Ensure you have a clear and written contract with all your suppliers.
- Keep receipts and copies of any communication with your suppliers.
- Consider paying by credit card whenever possible as this can also give you additional protection under the Consumer Credit Act.
Public liability is normally purchased by a business to insure their legal liability for death or injury to members of the public or damage to their property resulting from their activities as a business. Personal liability is purchased by someone who wants to insure their legal liability for injury to third parties or damage caused to third party property where they may be held legally liable on a personal basis. Some wedding insurance providers and venues may refer to personal liability as public liability. In most cases, this means the liability cover extends to guests and anyone invited to the wedding. We include personal liability cover of £2m for the wedding participants and guests as standard under Section 10 and 12 of the policy. Many venues make it a condition of your booking that you have some form of personal or public liability insurance in place and in some instances they may even request a minimum of £5m in cover. As such, in order to address this we also offer an optional liability extension of £5m that you can also add to your policy for an additional £50. The optional extension extends the amount of cover under Section 10 and 12 of the policy to £5m.
